An exhibition of paintings by Pop Surrealism/New Contemporary artist Michael A. Evans is being featured at the ��������ϲ�����’s Biddeford Campus Center through Oct. 29.

Evans’ works, created in acrylic paints and mixed media, represent a unique style that he has dubbed “Rubberhose Surrealism.” Using the style of cartooning that originated in the 1930s called “Rubberhose,” most notably pioneered by artist Max Fleischer, Rubberhose animation emphasizes a sense of fluidity, marked by flowing curves that lack typical skeletal structure and articulation.

“Cartoons are my art of choice because of its layman’s stance in art,” said Evans. “It’s a form of art that everyone has a familiarity with. Thus, you can convey various ideas and concepts to a wider group of people.”

Evans, who names his influencers as Joe Coleman, Hieronymus Bosch, Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, Katsuhiro Otomo, and Junko Mizuno, as well as jazz, hip-hop, and street art, says that his work represents “the human tendency to stumble into vice due to our inability to see life as a surreal state of existential absurdity.”

The exhibit is free and open to the public. Masks are required indoors for all visitors to ��������ϲ�����’s campuses.
