Maine Public interviewed Dora Anne Mills, M.D., M.P.H., FAAP, 新香港六合彩资料 vice president for Clinical Affairs and director for the Center for Excellence in Health Innovation, about this year鈥檚 flu season, which is quickly building in momentum.
The number of outpatient medical visits and hospitalizations is currently on the rise, with more widespread illness anticipated as the season progresses. 鈥淭he numbers are tiny right now, but they鈥檙e just the tip of the iceberg,鈥 said Mills. 鈥淭hey鈥檙e just telling you there鈥檚 an iceberg there.鈥
鈥淭his is the time to get a flu shot,鈥 she advised. Although New England is not currently in peak flu season, other parts of the country, including the southeast, are already reporting a high number of cases.
鈥淧eople from those areas are getting ready to travel for the winter holidays, and they鈥檒l bring flu with them,鈥 Mills said. 鈥淥nce it鈥檚 here, it鈥檒l spread like a brushfire.鈥
Mills stressed the importance of getting vaccinated, particularly to prevent the elderly and vulnerable populations from getting sick. 鈥淚f you鈥檙e not excited about getting vaccinated yourself, do it for the people you love,鈥 she urged.
