Brian Duff, Ph.D., associate professor and chair in the Department of Political Science, was quoted in a May 16 article in the Portland Press Herald about Senators Collins鈥 and King鈥檚 recent criticisms of President Trump for sharing classified information with Russian officials.
Responding to Collins鈥 statement that she was 鈥渢roubled鈥 by Trump鈥檚 behavior and that the reports of the disclosures were 鈥渆xtremely serious,鈥 Duff said that Collins鈥 comments are a 鈥渃lear condemnation鈥 of Trump鈥檚 conduct. He also commented that Collins鈥 reaction allows h氓er to thwart negative publicity that she received after expressing her support for Trump鈥檚 decision to fire former FBI director James Comey last week.
鈥淭his was a chance for her to clearly show that she is still keeping a critical eye on Trump. And I think these events profoundly disturb her in a way that the firing of the FBI director did not,鈥 he shared.
