Cathleen Miller, M.A., M.L.S., curator of the Maine Women Writers Collection, will present a lecture in conjunction with the , titled 鈥淎rtist鈥檚 Books as Teaching Tools.鈥

The lecture will be held Monday, September 11, at 4 p.m., at USM鈥檚 Glickman Family Library (University Events Room, 7th floor) at 314 Forest Avenue in Portland. Following the lecture, there will be an exhibition reception from 5 to 6 p.m. on the 6th floor, near Special Collections. Refreshments will be served, and the event is free and open to the public.

Miller鈥檚 lecture will focus on the potential and power of the artist鈥檚 book to engage students from many disciplines to think about how content and form influence one another. This form challenges our notions of what makes a book, what constitutes readership, and how we construct narratives, says Miller. All of these attributes create pathways to interdisciplinary discussions, making the artist鈥檚 book an innovative tool for teaching in the liberal arts, she explains.

Miller will provide examples from her own work with classes at the 新香港六合彩资料 and other local universities and will highlight the vibrant collection of artists鈥 books held by the Maine Women Writers Collection on 新香港六合彩资料鈥檚 Portland Campus.
