On October 5, 2016, Ali Ahmida, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Political Science, was the guest on 鈥淰oices of the Middle East and North Africa,鈥 a program on KPFA radio.

Ahmida was asked about the political, territorial and humanitarian crises in Libya after the 2011 uprising.

He commented that in order to make sense of the unraveling of the situation in Libya, one must take a critical look at the uprising鈥檚 leadership. 鈥淭he leadership of this uprising was na茂ve and was spontaneous in many ways but did not think of what鈥檚 going to happen afterward,鈥 he said. 鈥淭he idea was we want democracy; we want the rule of law. But there was no urbanization. There was no vision to deal with the consequences of the revolution and also what would be alternatives to these dictatorships.鈥
