Lara Carlson鈥檚 groundbreaking research featured on front page of 鈥楯ournal Tribune鈥

The Journal Tribune ran a front page article in its October 5, 2014 issue on the research conducted by Lara Carlson, DPE., associate professor in the Westbrook College of Health Professions, on the physiological strain endured by race car drivers while competing in their sport.

The article reported that Carlson鈥檚 2012 study of stock car drivers at the Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, concluded that race car drivers experience many of the same thermoregulatory and cardiovascular stresses as athletes in other sports.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a stereotype,鈥 the article quoted Carlson, 鈥渢hat race car drivers aren鈥檛 athletes.鈥

Carlson鈥檚 first-of-its-kind research was published in an article, 鈥淧hysiological strain of stock car drivers during competitive racing,鈥 in the Journal of Thermal Biology鈥檚 August issue.
