鈥楯ournal Tribune鈥 features article on James Sulikowski鈥檚 NOAA grant research on scallops

The June 28-29, 2014 weekend edition of the Journal Tribune featured a front page article titled 鈥溞孪愀哿喜首柿 to conduct scallop study,鈥 which discusses research being performed by James Sulikowski, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Marine Sciences, and his colleagues, through a $1.6 million grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

To collect data for the study, 12 新香港六合彩资料 undergraduate and graduate marine sciences students will go on week-long excursions with fishermen over a two-year period.  The students will take scallops that normally would be discarded, simulate their normal living conditions, and record survival rates.

鈥淭he findings from this study will contribute to better management of this incredibly valuable resource and help invigorate the scallop fisher here in Maine,鈥 said Sulikowski.  In the article, he notes that the scallop industry is 鈥渢he most important fishery on the East Coast鈥 and that last year 鈥渨as the biggest scallop year鈥 for Maine, with the industry valued at $5 million, the highest in 15 years.
