Jesse Miller publishes first novel

Jesse Miller, M.F.A., adjunct faculty member in the Department of English, recently published his first novel, Ark (Chupa Cabra House, 2014), which he considers a 鈥渓anguage novel鈥 that follows in the footsteps of James Joyce, Jack Kerouac, Anthony Burgess and Italo Calvino.

The book tells the tale of main character Alabaster Ash, a professional window washer and amateur foot fetishist, who serves his three physically fit, brutally aggressive stepsisters.  According to the book鈥檚 teaser, 鈥渁fter polishing foot after foot of glass in the gingerbread city of Candyland and cleaning up after the 鈥榳icked stairmasters,鈥 he haunts the bars and streets looking for love and appreciation--or a really nice pair of feet鈥labaster finds himself reliving and reimagining his parents' lives as he roams from bar to bar, from thrill ride to stunt show in the linguistic funland that is Ark.鈥

Jesse Miller teaches writing and literature courses at nearly every college in Maine.  He was raised near Saratoga Springs, New York (a.k.a. Candyland), lives in Portland, and roots for the Red Sox.
