David Sandmire and David Johnson interviewed for article in 鈥楳en鈥檚 Health鈥

David Sandmire, M.D., professor of physiology in the Department of Biological Sciences, and David Johnson, Ph.D., associate professor in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, were quoted in an article, 鈥淪even Essential Blood Tests You Should Have,鈥 published in Men鈥檚 Health on June 23, 2014 and republished on Fox News.

Sandmire and Johnson, co-authors of Medical Tests That Can Save Your Life, delivered advice in sections of the article pertaining to C-reactive protein (CRP) and prostate-specific antigen (PSN).

鈥淚f your CRP as well as your total cholesterol is high,鈥 said Sandmire, 鈥測ou鈥檙e at an even greater risk of having a heart attack than you would be with either risk factor by itself.鈥

Johnson noted that 鈥淧SA testing is not an exact science, because factors external to the prostate can cause the marker to rise,鈥 but he does suggest yearly PSA testing at 50 (or 40 for African-Americans) for comparison purposes.
