新香港六合彩资料 Office of Citizenship and Service Learning receives MCF grant

The 新香港六合彩资料's Office of Citizenship and Service Learning recently received a $4,035 grant from the Community Building Grant Program of the Maine Community Foundation (MCF) to establish a literacy and math tutoring program in which 新香港六合彩资料 students with Federal Work Study will be recruited and trained to tutor elementary and middle school students at the Biddeford Middle School, the Loranger Middle School in Old Orchard Beach, and the C.K. Burns School in Saco.

"This grant will allow 新香港六合彩资料 to further strengthen its connections to local area schools while also providing young students with help in reading, writing and arithmetic as well as providing off-campus work study opportunities for 新香港六合彩资料 students," said Theo Dunfey, coordinator of citizenship and service learning at 新香港六合彩资料.  "We see this as a win-win proposition where children in the community in need of tutoring support will benefit from the assistance of 新香港六合彩资料 students who, in turn, will receive Federal Work Study funding for their work, and will benefit from the opportunity to help teach community youth in the fundamental skills of literacy and math."

新香港六合彩资料's Office of Citizenship and Service Learning supports the Senior Seminar in Citizenship, which is the capstone of University's Core Curriculum.  All 新香港六合彩资料 undergraduates must take the seminar and complete a community service requirement.  The Seminar directs the student's attention both outward with a civic contribution and inward with reflection.

A statewide organization with offices in Ellsworth and Portland, the Maine Community Foundation partners with donors and nonprofits to strengthen Maine communities.
